Each Day Springs a Surprise!

Wake up each day with a feeling that something wonderful is about to happen.” Yes, I completely believe in this saying. Life is so full of beauties, mysteries and unknown surprises. Each day is beautiful, promising and holds multiple opportunities. So why waste time thinking what’s gone and regret the past? Instead have faith in yourself, your abilities and the supreme Almighty. Believe that each day can make you a better human being and present amazing life-changing possibilities. Keep a positive mind and be an optimist. Change how you perceive the world and it will change everything around you. Remember, a happy mind attracts happiness and limitless opportunities. So get going, feel good and enjoy life!

Doing absolutely NOTHING…

That’s right! To be precise…I’m doing nothing…nothing that excites me…nothing that is worthwhile! It’s just frustrating! Work has taken a backseat due to certain changes in department and so…the lull after the storm…err…the hectic work for the last few months!

Well…in a way, this is a welcome break! I’m enjoying the chilly winters and lazying around (in office) watching TV, playing games, blogging and exploring the web for what not! Good learning, must say!

Missing out on all the winter fun…no movies, shopping, eating out and roaming around…all that I badly wanna do. Coming to office every day and doing nothing…’tis boring like hell! The morning traffic, the continuous honking of cars and buses irritates me like anything…wish I could just spend a few days in solitude…but guess that’s an utopia at the moment 🙂

So, I’d just look up to 2012 with all new hope and enthusiasm…hope it rings in happiness, love, prosperity, gains and good luck!

Winter…Season of Mists and Mellow Fruitfulness

I always associate winter with Keats’ poetry.  It’s a beautiful season and time of the year, complete with its colors, music, aroma and beautiful warm sunshine. The weather is great and everything just seems lively and romantic! I love to indulge in all those lip smacking foods and festivities. And how can I dismiss the prolonged and undisturbed sleep under warm and fluffy blankets? That’s simply incomparable!

There’s Christmas, New Year’s Eve, New Year and a whole lot of ongoing winter celebrations. Winter is warm, sensuous and redolent with the sweet smell of flowers and all other good things that this season has to offer. Winter always brings back happy memories from childhood…the way we used to yearn for cakes, pastries and wait eagerly for school Yuletide parties and celebrations. That was awesome! As a child, the aroma of freshly baked cakes was irresistible! It still is 🙂 I still love to explore all the cake and pastry shops in town in search of that gorgeous piece of cake. I try to prepare cakes in my own special way. So winter for me is indeed special! Hence I welcome the “Season of Mists and Mellow Fruitfulness” with all enthusiasm and wish that it stays for quite some time!

Monsoon Woes

Monsoon is here at last after the sultry summers! There’s nothing to get overjoyed except that the unbearable heat is finally over. Kolkata roads are infamous for getting submerged every year during monsoons and hence, I can well imagine the sufferings of school, college and office goers! I have faced all that and at times, those were dreadful! Nothing has changed over the years, in spite of innumerable promises and plans made by the concerned authorities. The common people are at the receiving end of all miseries. It’s the same picture everywhere…potholes, open over flooded drains, blocked sewage, open manholes with missing lids, broken roads and sidewalks and what not! A handful of pumping stations actually work. Kolkatans are wary of such scenarios and seem to panic these days before the dark clouds start appearing in the city sky. When the authorities turn a deaf ear, people start preparing for the worse and make their own arrangements during monsoons. But still, many areas of Kolkata get flooded and people face their worst nightmares.

I am happy that I am not going out every day, since I’m hunting for a new job. But I know such sweet days at home would soon be over.  I can only hope that I don’t have to wade through a water-logged road. I hate the idea of making my way with feets soaked in muddy and filthy water!

Anyway, in continuation of my last post, I got to watch Kites and Rajneeti, though the former bombed at the box office, regardless of its numerous promos and hypes. Rajneeti was good though. I am keen to watch Knight and Day (Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz) and Inception (Leonardo Di Caprio), which are drawing a lot of critical acclaim. Martin Scorcese’s Shutter Island (released last week), also starring Di Caprio, was one of the highest grossing films worldwide in recent times.

Too bad that I am yet to watch any of these great flicks!

Kites, Rajneeti and Some More…

At last, Kites — the much awaited film directed by Anurag Basu and produced by Rakesh Roshan has hit theaters across the world on 21st May, 2010. The international version of Kites would be released in 60 countries around the world. The movie is a gripping love story with some melodious numbers. Lots of speculations and expectations were doing the rounds for Kites, what with its supposed sizzling chemistry between Hrithik Roshan and Barbara Mori, exotic locales, and spectacular action sequences. We’ll have to wait and see if the fireworks fly, but I am sure the movie would manage to draw big bucks for the box office. I am dying to catch the film!

Next in the list is veteran filmmaker Prakash Jha’s Rajneeti, which is a big budget multi-starrer film stirring up a lot of controversies and expectations.

Raavan, another big budget film directed by noted filmmaker Mani Ratnam is expected to release in June. The soundtrack of the film is by A.R. Rahman. This film is a modern adaptation of the great Indian epic, Ramayana. Waiting to watch this one as well.

A bunch of good Hollywood films are expected to release this June, like Prince of Persia, Ondine, Killers, Splice, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, and Knight and Day, starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. June is going to be the hottest month for sure!

Random Thoughts…

God is great! Winter in Kolkata was fabulous this time! Mercury dropped to many degrees below unlike the earlier years, and Kolkatans shivered, enjoyed and wore the thickest of woolens, much to their own disbelief!   January was almost freezing and it was lovely!

Winter is the best time to enjoy, watch movies, eat out, travel, work out and what not! Being a winter person, I can withstand even the coldest of climes and absolutely hate the idea of the approaching summers and sweltering heat. I wonder why the summer months are so prolonged! The city Met office has already predicted 2010 to be the hottest year in the recent times!

A host of good movies released during winter…3 Idiots, Sherlock Holmes, Avatar, Ishqiya, and some more sensible ones which I do not remember, and I was fortunate to watch some of them. Oh yes! I even had the chance to catch up with some nice and interesting titles on DVD.

The best charm of the city’s winter is undeniably the International Kolkata Book Fair, which was at its 34th year, drawing crowds young and old from all walks of life, including foreign tourists. This year the focal theme being Mexico, bookworms even had the opportunity of relishing tasty Mexican delicacies, prepared instantly by experienced Mexican chefs. I am missing this event for years now; not that I am lazy or something, but simply due to lack of time. I feel it is a great loss for a self-confessed book-lover like me. But I am already looking forward to next year and buy some good books.

Last but not the least, ” My Name is Khan” is about to release and I am impatiently waiting to catch the earliest show. Lots of unwanted and baseless controversies and news stories are circling around SRK and the film, but then, who cares? We, the die-hard admirers of Shahrukh are anticipating a hit and the magic of Kajol and Shahrukh to work again on screen! Kudos to SRK and My Name is Khan!!! Below is an excerpt from the much-awaited film…

New Year Resolutions!

Happy New Year!!!

Happy New Year!!!

Another brand new year to usher in! Another year to hope, dream and plan for. A new year to make(and break)resolutions. Personally, I feel sad as a year passes by and ends off. I feel if I could drag it for some more time. So many happy, sweet and sad moments and memories remain interweaved in a whole year! I remember, that I used to make a list of new year resolutions in my school and college days and vowed to abide by them. Somehow, I could just stick to few of them:) Later I realized that resolutions cannot be planned. All happenings should be spontaneous. Everything that happens in one’s life has a definite time and whatever happens carries a reason behind that. One just needs to be happy, positive, and in harmony with his/her own self.

New Year Resolution!

New Year Resolution!

So here’s wishing all my readers a very HAPPYAND FULFILLING NEW YEAR!!

Goodbye 2008 and let’s welcome 2009 with happiness and refreshed optimism!
